One of the huge reasons aluminum is ideal for boats is that it is extremely resistant to corrosion. As a boat is in the water for the majority of its life, this is ideal, especially as salt water has a tendency to rust and corrode most other metals. Aluminum also has a very low density giving it more buoyancy.
Budding boat builders also enjoy aluminum as it is considered to be one of the softer and more malleable marine materials that can be used. However, as they are making their own personal boat, most people enjoy the freedom in designing their own craft to fit in with exactly what they want it to do.
